چکیده

We build a grand unified theory based on the SU(9) group. The theory contains the standard model and a SU(4)TC technicolor group. The replication of families is introduced through a horizontal (or family) SU(3)H symmetry. Assuming a Fritzsh texture for the fermion mass matrix and with only one hypothesis about the dynamics of the strongly interacting sector we obtain a fermionic mass spectrum with a reasonable value for the top quark mass as well as for the fermion masses of the first generation. The b quark and τ lepton masses are overestimated and, as a consequence, the s quark and μ lepton masses are roughly a factor four larger than the experimental values. Within this model the origin of the mass scales of the first and third fermionic generation is naturally explained. The model has no flavor changing neutral currents at unwanted levels. We discuss the masses of pseudo-goldstone bosons and possible modifications in the model that could promote a larger splitting between the masses of the third fermionic generation, bringing also the masses of the second generation to a reasonable value.

The origin of the first and third generation fermion masses in a technicolor scenario

We argue that the masses of the first and third fermionic generations, which are respectively of the order of a few MeV up to a hundred GeV, are originated in a dynamical symmetry breaking mechanism leading to masses of the order αμ, where α is a small coupling constant and μ, in the case of the first fermionic generation, is the scale of the dynamical quark mass (≈ 250 MeV). For the third ferm...

Third-generation effects on fermion mass predictions in supersymmetric grand unified theories.

Relations among fermion masses and mixing angles at the scale of grand unification are modified at lower energies by renormalization group running induced by gauge and Yukawa couplings. In supersymmetric theories, the b quark and τ lepton Yukawa couplings, as well as the t quark coupling, may cause significant running if tanβ, the ratio of Higgs field expectation values, is large. We present ap...

Fermion Masses without Higgs: A Supersymmetric Technicolor Model

We propose a supersymmetric technicolor model in which the electroweak symmetry breaking is communicated to the quarks and leptons by technicolored SU(2)W -singlet scalars. When the technifermions condense, the quarks and leptons of the third generation acquire mass. The fermions of the other generations do not couple to the technicolored scalars but they receive masses from radiative correctio...

Fermion masses in E6 grand unification with family permutation symmetries

Neutrino masses have been extensively studied in the context of discrete symmetries. A family permutation symmetry easily explains all neutrino oscillations and their mixing angles. However it is not obvious the embedding of such symmetry in a grand unified theory where all fermions live in the same representation. We show that it is possible to embed such a horizontal discrete symmetry in a gr...
